Project Submitted By : Darapu Livingston of 7th B
Topic of the project: Chemical factories often operate close to residential areas. But what does that really mean for the long-term well-being of people, the health of the environment, and the overall quality of life in the community?
Explore the direct and hidden impacts—on health, air and water quality, safety, and mental peace.
Then, go one step further:
What are ways to balance industrial development with the safety, dignity, and rights of people living nearby?
What practical steps can industries, governments, and communities take to reduce risks and build safer environments?
Introduction: In many places, chemical factories are built close to houses. very 01 This is a big problem for the people who 2010 lives near that places. In this research, I will explain-
- why factories come near homes of houses,
- what problems we will face,
- who gets effected more and
- What can be done to improve the safety.
WHY FACTORIES NEAR HOMES
Old city planning: Long ago, cities were small, and rules were not strict. Factories were built first, and later people made houses around them because the people wanted to stay near their jobs.
Cheap land: The land near factories is cheaper so poor people and middle-class people will choose these places because they can’t bear more rent of house price. Weak rules: In many countries, the government didn’t make strict of strong rules to keep a distance between homes and factories so, both areas got mixed up.
Job opportunities: People want to stay near factories because they get jobs there. So, slowly a whole community grows around the factory.
PROBLEMS FACED BY BE PEOPLE LIVING NEAR CHEMICAL FACTORIES
Air Pollution: Factories release very harmful smoke and gases. If we breathe this daily it may cause
- Cough
- Chest pain
- Asthma
- Headaches
- Cancer .
Water Pollution: Some factories release dirty water into:
- Rivers
- Lakes
- Groundwater
People drinking this water may get: ·
- Stomach problems
- Skin allergies
- Long-term health issues.
Soil Pollution: Chemical waste mixes with soil. vegetables, Fruits grow in that soil. If we eat that Fruits and vegetables we may suffer from many diseases. .
Noise Pollution: Factory machines work day and Night. This loud sounds can cause:
- Sleeping problems
- Stress
- Blood pressure increase
- It distruts our mind
Bad Smell: Many factories release strong chemical smells that cause :-
- Nausea
- Headaches
- Irritation etc.
Accidents: Sometimes factories have :-
- Gas leaks
- Tires
- Explosions
People living close face more danger during emergencies
WHO SUFFERS THE MOST
Children: Children’s bodies are still growing. Factory pollution affects them quickly. They may get:
- Asthma
- Allergies
- Weak immunity
- Learning problems.
Old People: Commonly old people have already health issues like BP of breathing problems. Factory pollution makes it worse.
Poor Families: Port families live in cheap areas near factories. They cannot, move to safer easily places. It may become unsafe for pool people who are living there because there the roads are always busy with vehicles and factories releases very dangerous chemicals.
DAILY LIFE PROBLEMS IN THESE AREAS
People Experience:
- Dust settling on windows and clothes.
- Trucks carrying chemicals creating noise.
- Roads becoming busy and unsafe.
- Smell spreading inside houses.
- More coughing and throat pain during winter.
Real Examples
- India – Bhopal: A harmful gas has leaked in 1984 from a chemical plant. Many people died, thousands became sick. Even today, families fear such factories.
- USA- lancer Alley: Large chemical Industries are built near houses. Because of this reason marry people got sick and got cancers and breathing troubles.
- China – Industrial towns: Many towns with factories have smog, dirty water, and health issues.
WHAT GOVERNMENT SHOULD DO TO IMPROVE THE SAFETY
- Make strong rules: Homes must not be allowed very near to dangerous chemical plants.
- Regular checking: Government should frequently check pollution levels.
- Warning systems: Families must receive the warning about gas leaks of emergencies.
- Green zones: Trees should be planted around factories to reduce pollution.
- Strict punishments: Factories that break pollution laws must pay heavy fines.
- Create Separately Marked Industrial zones: Government should take action on industries and make Industries to move away from houses.
- Use cleaner technology: Modern machines release less pollution, and it saves the environment.
- Create Awareness: The government should make sure that everyone know that about pollution dangers.
ROLE OF CITIZENS: Citizens play a very important role in reducing the problems caused by chemical factories near residential areas. The government and factory owners cannot solve everything alone when people work together, they can protect their health, their families, and their environment. The following points explain how citizens can help
Inform the problems Immediately. If people observe any strange smell, smoke, leakage etc … they must inform
- Police station.
- Municipal officers.
- Pollution control board.
Arrange community groups. People living in the same area can arrange Residents welfare Associations [RWA]. These groups can :-
- Observe factories regularly.
- Conduct meetings.
- Share important informations.
When people stand unitedly, their complains will be taken seriously.
Attend Public Awareness Meetings. Whenever the government conduct awareness meetings about pollution, citizens must attend these meetings. These programs teach use
- how to stay.
- What chemicals are harmful
- How to reduce the pollution.
- How to protect children and elders.
- What emergency steps to follow.
These meetings help citizens to take correct decision in emergencies.
Teaching children Parents must educate children :-
- not to touch chemicals.
- not to play near factory zones.
- to stay indoor if pollution is high.
CONCLUSION :- Chemical factories are useful for development, but they should not be located near residential area of places in which people will stay. Proper safety rules must be followed to protect people’s health and the environment.
